It is no secret that the dream Galactic signing for Florentino Perez and Real Madrid this summer is Michael Olise of Bayern Munich, a Champions League rival with whom the Spaniards hold a very tenuous relationship with. There is far too much smoke around Olise's name for the rumors to be false, and everything Florentino said about the Galactico he wants to sign suits Olise perfectly, and it was obvious at the Champions League quarterfinals that the president fell in love with the player after how easily he sliced through the Madrid defense.

The problem is that Olise is as close to untouchable status as possible in Bavaria. He was nearly as brililant as the record setting Harry Kane last season, which is definitely saying someting. But Olise was an assist machine, untouchable on the ball, and capable of scoring goals from nothing with just the slightest of shooting space after cutting inside.

Amidst all the rumors linking Olise to Real Madrid, the Royal Whites have been abundantly careful not to tick off the Bavarians before they can really make a valid approach for the right winger. In their latest gesture, Real Madrid actually released an official statement denying their concrete interest in the player and that they will not go after Olise without approaching Bayern first.

Michael Olise is still on

Part of the statement reads, via Madrid Xtra, “In response to reports in various media outlets regarding an alleged interest from our club in Bayern Munich player Michael Olise, Real Madrid CF wishes to state that it has not had any direct or indirect contact with the aforementioned player, his representatives, or anyone in his entourage."

But that does not necessarily mean Real Madrid are not interested in Michael Olise in principle. It just means that they want to make it clear to the world, and especially Bayern Munich, that they are not going around their backs to negotiate with Olise or contact him.

That is a smart strategy from Florentino Perez. The only chance Real Madrid have of going after Olise is to approach the transfer with the utmost respect. Bayern are an institution that is huge on respect and values, and they will immediately break off all ties if they feel disrespected. But this is the way to do it. Also, if Real Madrid really were not interested at all in Olise, then they would not even bother making a statement about how they did not try to approach the player on their own. Food for thought.
