The elections are over, and Real Madrid can finally start working on their summer plans. They already have put some things in the works, but a large part of their plans was postponed because of the elections.

Now, Florentino Perez has won those elections, and has the future to focus on from now.

As hard as Enrique Riquelme tried, it was always going to be difficult for him to win the elections, because of how much trust the socios have in Perez. Riquelme's stories and promises also had a few gaping holes, which did not help his case.

Now, though, Perez can finally work on Real Madrid alongside new manager Jose Mourinho, who is rumored to be wanting a midfielder in the summer.

Real Madrid's struggles have been abundantly clear, and Mourinho would want to fix a few of those in the middle of the park.

They have been linked with the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Rodri for that position, and Rodri has since been reportedly eliminated as an option, according to The Athletic. Enzo has been named by many people, but Real Madrid should be looking elsewhere in England if they want a quality midfielder.

Matheus Fernandes would cost a fair bit of money, but Real Madrid should pay that for him rather than going all in for Enzo. Enzo is a better player - let's just clarify that there is no doubt about it - but Fernandes' hard-working nature would help the club a lot, as will his long-range passing and his neat reading of the game.

He is a good dribbler, too, which would help Real Madrid at getting out of press. Enzo is also going to be much more expensive.

Not that Enzo isn't a quality player, but Real Madrid do not necessarily need stars in midfield. He is probably as talented as they come, but his price tag would be skyrocketing due to his long contract, and there have been some instances in the past where he was quite inconsistent.

It does not happen very often, but obviously, being a big player would have its drawbacks, and the ego is one of them. It was reported a few days ago that Mourinho does not want to sign stars, he wants to sign hard-workers who would do anything to win games. Fernandes seems to be more of that mould than Enzo is.
