Real Madrid have a lot of ambitious signings they are planning this summer transfer window. Even beyond their search for one more center back and a top midfielder or two to complete the new team for Jose Mourinho, Los Blancos are kicking around the idea of adding top quality at the forward positions, too, with Florentino Perez continuing to dream of Bayern Munich's Galactico Michael Olise on that right hand side.

In order to accommodate the new signings, though, Real Madrid have to make sales, and one of the expendable players is Brahim Diaz. The talented Moroccan international is being courted heavily by Luciano Spalletti, the manager of Juventus, and while Brahim has been resisting any attempts to leave Madrid, there is a feeling that if Mourinho tells him he is not needed, he may very well go.

And so Brahim is playing like a man possessed at the World Cup for his national team. After grabbing a great assist to help Morocco tie Vinicius Junior and Brazil 1-1 in the opener, Brahim landed another brililant assist in the early going to give Morocco the decisive 1-0 lead over Scotland in the second game.

Jose Mourinho may have to pause

Beyond the assist in that second match, Brahim was brilliant overall as a playmaker with three key passes, three dribbles completed, and two fouls drawn as by far and away the best attacking player on the pitch for either team. Brahim was nearly flawless with 95 percent of his passes completed.

All Brahim can do is fight hard, show his quality at the World Cup, dig his heels in, and prove to Jose Mourinho that like Gonzalo Garcia and Franco Mastantuono, he deserves at least a fair shake in the squad and for Mourinho to watch him personally before the club decides to make a final decision to sell him to Juventus or any other club.

Brahim has issues like being too slow for the wing and not quite being enough of a creator or controller to be a 10 in the modern game at an elite club, but he has that something extra in terms of his quickness in tight areas, work rate, and ambipedal nature that makes him effective as a scrappy player in a rotational role. He was important to Real Madrid when they won the 2023/24 Champions League, he had some big performances including in some big games last season, and he is shining for Morocco with game winning plays in key moments. Mourinho has something to think about.
