As Real Madrid approach the finish of this season's La Liga campaign, which is still far from over, matchday 32 versus Athletic Bilbao will be critical in keeping them in contention for the title.

FC Barcelona now leads the standings by 7 points, with Madrid behind in second place after playing one extra game. A victory over Athletic Club is critical for keeping title hopes alive.

Los Blancos now treat every forthcoming league game as if it were a final. They must not drop any points and contend for the league title in the forthcoming El Clasico.

To win against Athletic Club, the best players will be needed. However, some of Real Madrid's most crucial players are absent due to injuries and suspensions.

Kylian Mbappe is not going to be available for the game on Sunday

Kylian Mbappe was given a one-game suspension after being sent off against Alaves in the 38th minute for a clumsy and unnecessary tackle on Antonio Blanco. He will miss the game this weekend.

This ban, however, is merely a fortuitous break because the French attacker is already out injured owing to a sprain sustained against Arsenal on Wednesday. The ban will give him additional time to relax as he prepares to face Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final.

Ferland Mendy is also absent owing to a hamstring injury sustained in the previous months. He was anticipated to recuperate sooner, but it is taking longer. As things stand, he should be prepared for the game next weekend.

Andriy Lunin remains in question owing to his discomfort. Though his name has been included in the team, Thibaut Courtois is nearly certain to start the game.

Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal are still sidelined, and they are not anticipated to return until the FIFA Club World Cup.
