Cristian Romero's future at Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly in major doubt amid reported interest from Real Madrid. The Argentine defender is one of several names on Florentino Perez's wishlist to strengthen a defense that has been depleted due to injury setbacks.

Reports claim that Perez is a fan of Romero and are keen on swooping for the 27-year-old this summer. He is regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and his experience could help whoever is in charge at the Estadio Bernabeu next season.

Romero has recently made several damning comments on social media about his club's higher-ups. It seems he wants out and will look to leave at the end of the campaign.

Real-Madrid linked Romero wants to leave Spurs

Romero was in the headlines before Spurs suffered a 2-0 loss to Manchester United on Saturday. He created even more controversy when he was sent off for a studs up challenge on former Madrid midfielder Casemiro.

According to Argentine journalist Gaston Edul (via Transfer News Live), Romero is at loggerheads with his club's board and will 'leave' this summer. His issues with the board stem from concerns about the recruitment and a lack of action taken in response to an injury crisis.

Romero has made 28 appearances across competitions this season, posting six goals and four assists. He has been with the London club since the summer of 2022 but might be looking to exit once the season concludes.

Real Madrid should prioritise Romero over Premier League defender

If Romero does become available this summer then Madrid should put themselves in the race to sign the 2022 World Cup winner. He has proven experience along with leadership qualities that could be needed if the likes of Dani Carvajal and Antonio Rudiger depart this summer.

The Argentine isn't the only Premier League center-back on Perez's wishlist. Reports claim that Madrid are back in for Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Konate is enduring a difficult campaign amid some questionable performances. If it comes down to a choice between the two it should be the Spurs man who is prioritised.
