Kylian Mbappe is undoubtedly one of the best goalscorers in Europe and he continued his rich vein of form in Real Madrid's 2-0 win over Valencia. The French forward netted the second of the night at the Mestalla.

That was Mbappe's 38th goal of the season and he has now bagged 23 goals in 22 La Liga games. His incredible goalscoring exploits have convinced many that he will be in the mix for the Ballon d'Or later this year.

Mbappe currently sits on 82 goals in 90 games since joining Madrid after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024. One of his teammates believes he's on course to eclipse Cristiano Ronaldo's legendary spell at the Estadio Bernabeu.

Tchouameni makes Mbappe-Ronaldo claim

Mbappe is putting up similar goalscoring numbers which were the norm for Ronaldo during his nine seasons in the Spanish capital. He is in his second season with Los Blancos and will be eager to finish the campaign as a La Liga champion or achieving European glory.

Aurelien Tchouameni gave a glowing verdict of his French compatriot after the win against Valencia. He told reporters (via Madrid Zone):

"Do I think Kylian Mbappe can surpass Cristiano Ronaldo? Of course he can. He's incredible."

Mbappe looked up to Ronaldo and is following in his footsteps at Madrid. He is on course to become a two-time La Liga Golden Boot winner and Tchouameni's comments have caused quite a stir among Madridistas.

Ronaldo became Los Blancos' all-time top goalscorer when he netted 450 goals in 438 games. The Portuguese icon is regarded as one of the greatest players in football history and his trophy cabinet speaks volumes.

The 41-year-old won four Champions League trophies at Madrid and is a five-time Ballon d'Or winner. He also got his hands on two La Liga titles while forging the greatest rivalry in history against Lionel Messi.

Mbappe can't surpass Ronaldo

While it's admirable to see Tchouameni back his fellow countryman to surpass Ronaldo, it just isn't possible. Given his age, it is highly unlikely that he will eclipse the iconic forward's goalscoring record.

From a performance standpoint Ronaldo had fans glued to their television screens and he came to the fore time and time again. Until Mbappe fires his team to a La Liga title or a Champions League trophy such a comparison seems unjustified.

Ronaldo isn't just the best player to pull on a Los Merengues jersey but quite possibly the undisputed king of European football. He won the La Liga Golden Boot on three occasions during his rivalry with Messi and his best season came in 2014-15 when he hit 48 goals.

If Mbappe betters that number then a conversation about the possibility of him surpassing Ronaldo in front of goal is merited. But Tchouameni is getting way too ahead of himself as things stand.
