Real Madrid have reportedly been given confidence that a potential deal for a Manchester United star might be possible this summer. There are plenty of Premier League players on the club's shortlist ahead of a much-needed rebuild.
A new center-back, central midfielder and full-back are three priorities for Madrid. Even if a new permanent manager is appointed it seems those three positions will be the main focus for the transfer chiefs.
The La Liga giants have a good relationship with United having done bussiness with the Premier League club many times. That could play an important role in a possible pursuit of a Dani Carvajal replacement.
Man United open door for Real Madrid to pursue Dalot
Carvajal's contract expires in June and he has reportedly grown frustrated under caretaker coach Alvaro Arbeloa. The veteran Spanish right-back has endured recurring injury issues but hasn't been used recently when available.
According to TEAMtalk, Madrid are interested in United's Diogo Dalot and are enticed by the Portuguese defender's versatility. He can play in his preferred right-back position aswell as at left-back which would help the club moving forward.
It's claimed that although the Red Devils' higher-ups are "happy with Dalot" they are aware that he will want a pay rise when signing a new deal. His current contract expires in the summer of 2028 meaning this summer is an oportune time to cash in on him.
As a result, the Reds are "considering selling" their full-back at the end of the season. That will be music to Florentino Perez's ears, given he is one of three potential targets who could replace Carvajal.
Dalot has appeared 26 times across competitions this season, posting one goal and three assists. His club's legendary full-back Denis Irwin hailed him as a "brilliant" servant earlier this month.
Madrid must only move at a reasonable price
Dalot would be a decent acquisition for Madrid given his versatility and experience at the top level. He has spent nearly eight years with United and become their undisputed starting right-back.
The 26-year-old is also the perfect age and could be an ideal option to give Trent Alexander-Arnold competition. He is perhaps more defensively sound than the former Liverpool man and their contrasting profiles would be hugely beneficial.
That said, a potential transfer needs to be for a fee that doesn't take a massive chunk out of the club's chequebook. He will be entering the final year of his contract should he still be at Old Trafford come the start of 2027.
