Real Madrid lost 3-2 to Barcelona in extra time in the final of the Copa Del Rey on Saturday night.
In a very weird first half, Real Madrid were forced too deep by Barcelona, and in doing so, it limited the chances they would make in attack. They had just one shot in the first half, which was off target. They conceded the first goal after surrounding Lamine Yamal in the box, leaving Pedri completely open.
Real Madrid started the second half much better, creating danger, but were not able to find that finishing touch. Kylian Mbappe came on and scored a brilliant free kick to draw them level.
Aurelien Tchouameni put them ahead shortly after through a well taken header, and Real Madrid looked to gain more and more control, but Ferran Torres equalised a few minutes later.
In the last few minutes of the match, Real Madrid looked to give away a penalty but it was ruled out by VAR after a lengthy check.
Jules Kounde then scored the winner in extra-time, as Real Madrid lost to Barcelona for the third time this season.
Real Madrid player ratings from a heartbreaking Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona
GK Thibaut Courtois
Made two fantastic saves in the first half. Also made a couple more in the second. Great performance. Nothing he could have done about the insane Pedri goal. Made a brilliant save on Yamal, before rushing too quickly to give Ferran Torres an open goal. Rating: 6.5
RB Lucas Vazquez
Really bad performance. Raphinha did not half the best of halves, but it was not because of anything Vazquez did. Real Madrid's captain on the night, he kept fouling the players he marked, and never passed the ball around well enough to give Real Madrid anything going forward. Rating: 5
CB Raul Asencio
Made a few mistakes within the first few minutes of the match, and continued to struggle all game. Looked to have made a rash mistake when he gave the penalty at the death, but it was called off. Rating: 7
CB Antonio Rudiger
Very physical performance from Rudiger. Looked to make a few dangerous challenges but also made some key ones that let Real Madrid get away with bad defending. He was beat for pace by Ferran Torres in the second goal. Monstrous since then, fought for every ball, every pass and every challenge. Got a red card when he was on the bench, was furious. Rating: 8
LB Ferland Mendy
Injured in nine minutes. Should never have started if he was not fully fit. Rating: N/A
DM Aurelien Tchouameni
Rash challenges all around the first half, but settled in with some key interceptions. Scored Real Madrid's second with a wonderful header. Good performance overall, but could have been prettier. Rating: 8
CM Dani Ceballos
Struggled to get into the game initially but looked decent once he did. Passed the ball around well, but was ball-watching in Pedri's goal. Was subbed off quickly after the start of the second half. Rating: 6
CM Fede Valverde
Had a brilliant last-ditch challenge to block a dangerous Barcelona opportunity in the first half, before doing it again in the second. Had to sit deep to play through the Barcelona press. He had so many good defensive stops all game which will undoubtedly go unnoticed. Looked like a team more when Valverde was moved to the right-back spot. He was unreal there too. Rating: 8
AM Jude Bellingham
Was the most lively Real Madrid player in the midfield and attack. Dribbled past multiple bodies and helped Real Madrid through the press. He even scored a goal which was called for offside. Should have tracked back for Pedri's goal. Second half was absolutely brilliant. Took over on both ends and just cooked for 45 minutes and then extra time as well. Rating: 8.5
LW Vinicius Jr
Was offside plenty of times in the first half, and had a few terrible passes. Improved massively in the second half the second Mbappe came on. Much improved. Still couldn't get the timing of his decisions right, and was subbed off after getting injured. Rating: 7
RW Rodrygo
Horrible performance from the Brazilian in the club's biggest game of the season so far. Absolutely blank. Nothing to offer on either end. Hooked at half time. Just the one goal in 23 games for Rodrygo now. Rating: 4
Real Madrid Substitutions
CF Kylian Mbappe
Was easily Real Madrid's best forward. Won the free kick and scored from that free kick to equalise. Brilliant impact, and he moved with conviction as well. Won a penalty in the end but was ruled out as Brahim was offside. Rating: 8
LB Fran Garcia
Struggled so, so much against Yamal. Looked nervous, acted nervous and played nervously. Very bad performance in the first half. Improved slightly in the second. Rating: 5
CM Arda Guler
Brilliant cameo off the bench. Got the assist for the second goal, and was brilliant overall. Great substitution by Carlo Ancelotti. Finally. Rating: 7.5
CM Luka Modric
Ran faster than any other man on the pitch on some occasions, and controlled the tempo for Real Madrid. Played really well in the few minutes. Gave the ball away to Kounde, but it was also Brahim's fault. Rating: 7
RW Brahim Diaz
Not a good performance off the bench. Gave the ball away multiple times and had a few really bad decisions, including the one that got Barcelona their third goal. Was offside when Mbappe won the non-penalty. Rating: 4.5
CF Endrick
Brought on to replace Rudiger in the last 10 minutes of the final. Rating: 6
