Real Madrid beat Celta Vigo 3-2 through brilliant performances from Kylian Mbappe and Arda Guler in LaLiga on Sunday afternoon.

They were able to win the match which they were leading by three goals, but a late surge from Celta and many lapses in focus from Real Madrid meant they had to work very hard to defend for the last 10 or so minutes.

They went ahead after a brilliant opener from Guler, who had a far-post finish from the edge of the box. Shortly after, Mbappe broke forward in a scathing counter-attack and scored a brilliant second, before the two scorers linked up, which gave Mbappe his second of the day.

They conceded two goals in a very short amount of time late in the second half. but they just about held on.

Real Madrid were able to just about take the three points before the big match against Barcelona in a week's time. Barcelona had won the match against Real Valladolid, so it was crucial for Los Blancos to win.

Real Madrid player ratings from the win against Celta Vigo

GK Thibaut Courtois

Great performance from Courtois who had a few really good saves in both halves to keep Real Madrid in the game initially, and ahead after. He had a brilliant save that resulted in a Real Madrid goal just 10 seconds after. Unlucky to concede the two goals. Rating: 7

RB Lucas Vazquez

Struggled in the second half, did not do much on either side of the pitch. He had a good game in the first half but that was mainly because he did not have to defend all that much after the 15th minute. Rating: 6

CB Raul Asencio

Solid performance from Asencio who got an ovation from the crowd when he was subbed off for Jacobo Ramon. He had a few really good challenges over the course of the game. Rating: 7.5

CB Aurelien Tchouameni

Struggled a tiny bit in the last few minutes, but an incredible defensive shift from Tchouameni all day. What a level he has hit over the last few months. Monstrous performance. Rating: 8.5

LB Fran Garcia

Solid shift. Not much wrong with what he did, also not much of a standout. He did what he had to do and did it well. Rating: 6.5

CM Fede Valverde

Made those darting runs that everyone loves from him, and had so many last-second interventions in the defensive end. Played the ball very well and passed it around to his teammates in a tidy manner. Rating: 7.5

CM Jude Bellingham

A slow day for Bellingham, who, although got an assist for the brilliant Mbappe goal, looked to be at 60% capacity. Still good, but just not anywhere near the standards he has set for himself. Played a bit deeper than usual at points. Rating: 7

CM Dani Ceballos

Decent shift from Ceballos. Passed the ball around well, but still not playing the same way he did before the injury. This was much better, though, and hopefully the Spaniard keeps improving. Rating: 7

RW Arda Guler

Absolutely brilliant. A beautiful goal in the first half, followed by an Ozil-esque assist in the second, Guler's impact was felt by every soul at the Bernabeu. Has Xabi Alonso's reported trust, and rightfully so. A brilliant shift, and he just needs to keep playing more and more. Rating: 9

CF Kylian Mbappe

Another amazing performance from Mbappe. Two really well-taken goals - the first one, especially, from long distance - but it was not just that. Mbappe defended well. He pressed when there was a need to do so, resulting in him winning possession many times. He also tracked back and defended in the last few minutes, which was good to see. Should have scored a third. Rating: 9

LW Vinicius Jr

Not the best performance, but not the worst. Shooting was a bit wayward from the Brazilian. Needs to improve massively for the Clasico. Rating: 6

Substitutions

CB Jacobo Ramon

Passed the ball well but struggled sometimes when Celta had their late resurgence. Rating: 6

CM Luka Modric

Came on in the final 15 and controlled proceedings. Rating: 6

Brahim Diaz

Came on for Arda Guler. Rating: 6
