Real Madrid came from two goals behind to beat Borussia Dortmund. However, the cracks aren't papered over. Carlo Ancelotti needs a new transfer plan.

Real Madrid are suffering defensively right now. It is clear to see why, with some of their top defenders injured. One of the key absentees for Real Madrid is Dani Carvajal.

Dani Carvajal could miss the rest of the season through injury. As one of the most important players in the squad, Real Madrid fans were not happy when hearing about this news a few weeks ago.

Naturally, many assumed that Carlo Ancelotti would seek a new right-back signing in the January transfer window. However, this is not believed to be the case, with Carlo Ancelotti insteadseeking internal options.

Last night, against Borussia Dortmund, Lucas Vazquez was one of Real Madrid's worst players. In fact, the full-back was exploited to concede both goals.

To say that Lucas Vazquez was entirely at fault for both goals would be unjust and untrue. However, he was the common denominator in both situations, so Real Madrid must consider this.

Lucas Vazquez has a big task on his hands. He cannot afford to be injured or suspended, otherwise Real Madrid has no other recognised right-back options.

This, combined with Vazquez showing his frailties in the UEFA Champions League last night, should inspire a new Real Madrid transfer plan. The best option for Real Madrid's safety is to sign a new option in the January transfer window.

Of course, Trent Alexander-Arnold is the most desirable option. While the preferred outcome is to sign him for free after his contract expires, Real Madrid's squad problems require a quicker solution.

Hopefully, Real Madrid will begin to recognise that they cannot go on with only Lucas Vazquez as the only recognised right-back.
