Real Madrid face Malaga in matchday three of La Liga on Sunday, with a chance to stay near the top of the table with a win.

Barcelona have scored a fair few goals to start the season, so if Real Madrid want to retain top spot, they must also do the same - at least for now.

There are a number of Real Madrid absentees that Jose Mourinho will be without for the contest. Some of these players might be back in a week or two, while others would have to wait a bit longer to make their first appearance under Mourinho.

Here are the players who will definitely miss the game against Malaga - there are no doubts.

Endrick - muscle injury

Jose Mourinho confirmed that Endrick will be among the first players to return from injury. The Brazilian can make his return in the game against Real Betis next week, but for now, he remains out as he has yet to start training with the team.

Aurelien Tchouameni - muscle injury

Mourinho also talked about Tchouameni - mentioning how he is a bit further back in the recovery phase than Endrick is, which means he will be out for a week or two at least. Mourinho wants him back when he has fully recovered, which could hopefully be in September.

Thiago Pitarch - muscle injury

Thiago also injured himeslf a few weeks ago, and has been out ever since. He has yet to play any minutes this season, and even though Mourinho realises how talented the midfielder is, he would have to wait a bit longer to play under him. He should not be out for too long, though - Transfermarkt claims he is supposed to be back in September.

Eder Militao - left hamstring injury

One of the most talented but equally injury prone central defenders Real Madrid have ever had, Militao had to get surgery on his left hamstring after he suffered an injury towards the end of last season. Since then, he has missed all footballing action - including a World Cup he would have been very excited for. He should return in a few weeks, as he is due to start training with the team very soon.

Raul Asencio - Muscle issue / shin

No one knows when the player is due to return. There were reports that he is close to recovering from his initial injury, but a shin problem has been bothering him since.

Ferland Mendy - Tendon rupture

Mendy is also a devastatingly injury prone player, who seems to be fit for just a few matches every year. Mendy will remain out for a while, and there is no timeline for the Frenchman's return.

Rodrygo - Anterior Cruciate Ligament damage

The unfortunate ACL curse that has hit Real Madrid will continue to exist for a few more months, as Rodrygo is nowhere near a potential return.
