Can Real Madrid break new ground in the Women's Champions League this season? Since debuting in the competition in 2021/22, las Blancas' best runs have been to the quarter-finals, getting that far on three occasions. This includes last season when, after ousting Paris FC in the first knockout round, they were demolished 12-2 by Barça Femení, beaten 6-2 at home and then 6-0 at Camp Nou.

To commence this campaign, Pau Quesada's side are unbeaten, picking up ten points out of 12, most-recently beating Valencia 3-1 at home on Saturday.
Real Madrid also ousted Ajax in the third qualifying round of the Champions League, winning 2-1 at Sportpark De Toekomst and then 2-0 back in Valdebebas. However, this will be a far tougher test, so can las Blancas rise the occasion?
As for Paris Saint-Germain, they were Champions League Finalists in 2015 and 2017, as well as being semi-finalists four times since 2020. However, les Parisiennes' last two European campaigns have been complete disasters. PSG were first dumped out by Juventus in qualifying before, last season, finishing second bottom of the league phase, picking up only two points.
By virtue of finishing third in last season's Première Ligue, Paulo César's side entered qualifying once again. This time, up against Eintracht Frankfurt, both legs finished 1-1, meaning extra time was required, in which PSG, remarkably, scored four times to secure their spot. Domestically, they have won three league games out of three so far, scoring five goals and conceding zero, albeit their goal difference is still 14 inferior than Lyon's, who have scored 22 times in only three matches.
Thus, neither Real Madrid nor Paris Saint-Germain are genuine potential Champions League winners, making this opening night clash at Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano tough to call.

Teenaged Swedish striker Felicia Schröder has been on fire so far this season. She netted home and away against Ajax in qualifying, as well as scoring three times in Liga F thus far. Assuming Lineth Beerensteyn also starts in attack, it will be her 70th Champions League appearance, the joint most for any Dutch women.
