Real Madrid return to the Bernabeu to face Sevilla in La Liga on Sunday, with a good result being crucial to stay close to Barcelona just before the Clasico in 10 days' time.
Real Madrid need a lot to be able to beat Sevilla, who have always caused them problems, regardless of whether it is at home or away.
Real Madrid are suffering from a few injuries that will probably keep quite a few players away from first-team action.
The club is trying to figure out a way to field the best possible lineup without the players currently injured.
Real Madrid vs Sevilla early injury news as 4 ruled out for Bernabeu clash
Raul Asencio - out
Raul Asencio just had surgery on his right leg and has been out for every single match of the current season so far. He's not scheduled to return to team training anytime soon, and it will be a pretty positive return if he is able to make appearances before the end of the year. When that actually happens, or whether his recovery speeds up a little bit towards the end, will be interesting to follow. As of now, Real Madrid will be missing a centre-back once again.
Eder Militao - out
Eder Militao has also not played a single minute of football for Real Madrid since injuring his hamstring before the end of last season. He has been out for a very long time, and although his return is very close to happening, it is still not enough for the Brazilian to be ready for the game against Sevilla or even the game against Barcelona. The hope from Real Madrid fans is for him to return at some point during November, and after that, Real Madrid will finally have one of their best centre-backs available to be picked.
Rodrygo - out
Rodrygo is in a similar position to Militao. He is probably a bit further behind his Brazilian teammate in terms of recovery from his anterior cruciate ligament injury, but he is actively getting closer to getting to that stage. It will only be a matter of time until we see Rodrygo play for Real Madrid again. With the current form that Vinícius Junior is showing, Rodrygo will have a pretty good chance of playing at left wing and trying to improve, to try to convince the manager that he is still good enough to play for Real Madrid. Unfortunately, that would not happen against Sevilla.
Ferland Mendy
Ferland Mendy is also training on grass, and his return will be imminent. However, it does not seem that likely that he will play a lot of football even after returning. Real Madrid already have two really good fullbacks in Marc Cucurella and Alvaro Carreras. Mendy entering the picture would definitely give Mourinho one more option, but given his injury record and how far he is down the pecking order now, it just does not seem like he will return to the first team in time to. Even if he does, it definitely would not be against Sevilla.
