Real Madrid vs Sevilla match preview
Real Madrid have won both matches they've played this week, but to say these have been eventful would be an understatement. On Wednesday night, José Mourinho's team looked dead and buried against Roma, 3-1 down at Stadio Olimpico and playing poorly.
What unfolded in the final eight minutes was literally extraordinary. Los Blancos scored from three corners in double quick time, with Carlos Espí bundling home from close-range, before thumping headers from Endrick and then Antonio Rüdiger against his former club snatched victory.
Meantime, last weekend, Real Madrid beat Villarreal 1-0 at home, Yan Diomandé the only scorer, but that does not begin to tell the whole story. The headline from this match was the red card shown to Vinícius Júnior. While the Brazilian was celebrating, what he thought, was a second goal, referee Isidro Díaz de Mera Escuderos was at the VAR monitor, returning to not only disallow the goal but dismiss Vini Jr for pulling Nathan Saliba's hair.
This is particularly consequential because there is a Clásico coming up next Sunday, with Real Madrid currently six points adrift their fiercest rivals, who are yet to put a foot wrong. Thus, los Merengues cannot drop points here and risk falling further behind Barcelona before their visit to Catalonia.
Well, this is unlikely to straight-forward. Sevilla have finished between 12th and 17th in each of the last four seasons, but are shaping up to be significantly stronger this time round. Luis García Plaza's team start the weekend fifth, having only been beaten by Atlético and Barça to date.
On Monday night, los Nervionenses played out a bonkers 3-3 draw with Levante at Ciutat de València. They led twice, Robbie Ure and Félix Correia on target, before there were three goals in injury time. The hosts equalised, Isaac Romero then fired Sevilla ahead, ridiculously sent off for a second yellow card after shushing the home support, before los Granotes pinched a point with 90+10' on the clock.
Nevertheless, having beaten Rayo Vallecano, Athletic, Deportivo A Coruña and Valencia so far this season, Sevilla are aiming to return to European competition. Having said that, los Hispalenses have not won at the Bernabéu for 18 years, and it would be quite the story if they changed that on Sunday night.
Real Madrid team news

This is the first of Vinícius Júnior' four match ban, meaning he won't be seen in La Liga again until 22 November. So, as was the case from the start against Villarreal, Yan Diomandé will be deployed on the left, with Arda Güler on the right. Having said that, after both Carlos Espí and Endrick scored off the bench in Rome, could we see José Mourinho use either more frequently, potentially moving Kylian Mbappé out-wide?
In defence, Éder Militão, Raúl Asencio and Ferland Mendy remain sidelined, but Dean Huijsen was on the bench in mid-week, so could he be rotated in for either Ibrahima Konaté or Antonio Rüdiger?
Sevilla team news
Sevilla are also missing a key forward, after Isaac Romero's truly bizarre sending off on Monday, so Robbie Ure will lead the line; the Scotsman bagged his first for the club in that match.
