Real Madrid have been eyeing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez but he's not the only member of their team who is on Florentino Perez's wishlist. The Argentine midfielder is reportedly liked by the La Liga club but they feel the Blues' likely asking price of over 100 million euros is too expensive.

Fernandez has been impressing in England this season and could be a fine addition to Madrid's midfield. But addressing clear issues in midfield isn't the only priority this summer.

The defense is also expected to get a refresh and that could see Dani Carvajal depart when his contract expires. The veteran Spanish defender has endured injury issues as has Trent Alexander-Arnold during his debut campaign.

Real Madrid eyeing Chelsea star

Chelsea have been one of the best defensive teams in the Premier League and Reece James has been a massive reason. The English right-back has starred not only in his preferred position but also in central midfield.

When James has been used as a midfielder the Blues have turned to Malo Gusto to play at right-back. The Frenchman has been an excellent backup for James and he is also versatile as he can play at left-back and also in holding midfield.

Madrid Universal reports that Madrid view a full-back signing as a "priority this summer." Its claimed that Gusto is now on the radar ahead of a rebuild.

Gusto has appeared 31 times across competitions this season, posting two goals and three assists. The 22-year-old has been at Stamford Bridge since early 2023 and is contracted to the London club until 2030.

A deal for Gusto could be possible given James is the undisputed starting right-back in Liam Rosenior's team. It might be tempting for the French star to make the move if he feels he can become a starter at the Estadio Bernabeu.

Carvajal needs to be replaced

Carvajal is thought to be keen on staying at Madrid but the time has come to move on from the 34-year-old. He is a club legend who has won every major trophy on offer since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in 2013.

Alexander-Arnold's difficult start in the Spanish capital due to recurring injury issues has been cause for concern. But Carvajal hasn't been available to turn to during the English full-back's absence.

Gusto fits the bill as a potential acquistion to allow whomever is in charge to rotate with Alexander-Arnold. There is a good chance he could become the starter ahead of the former Liverpool man.
