Given the illustrious history and the size of a club like Real Madrid, in their long and storied history they have developed intense rivalries with other clubs both on and off the pitch. Clubs like Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are Real's biggest rivals but they also have rivalries with other big European clubs, like Bayern Munich, but that rivalry is filled with nothing but respect between the clubs and the fans.

One European club that Real Madrid has developed a rivalry with over the last few years is Liverpool. Real has matched up against Liverpool 13 times, taking home seven victories, losing five and drawing just one. The two have faced each other in five of the last six Champions League campaigns, and it is a heated clash every time.

Real beat Liverpool in the quarterfinals of the 20/21 Champions League before winning the all-important 21/22 Champions League final, then the rematch in the round of 16 in 2023. The Premier League side has won the two most recent clashes in the Champions League league phase, both this season and last season, in what were both pretty embarrassing performances from Los Blancos.

Liverpool seems to have gotten the last laugh against Real Madrid on the pitch; however, we all know no one really gets the last laugh over Florentino Perez, and he is already plotting his "revenge", if you will, off the pitch.

Real Madrid wants to get their payback against Liverpool off the field

As reported by AS, Real Madrid is one of a few clubs that are monitoring Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, as his contract is quickly coming to an end with the Premier League side.

The Hungarian is under contract with Liverpool until 2028, and the club remains interested in extending his contract, but given some of the current unrest at Liverpool, some of their stars could begin to assess their futures if results continue to slip.

Szoboszlai was a name linked with Real Madrid in the past, while he was still at RB Leipzig, and the club was very interested in signing him, but Liverpool ultimately beat them to him in 2023. The Hungarian has the profile of a player that could fit right into Xabi Alonso's system, but the question is, do Real Madrid really need him?

The squad already has an overload in the midfield with players like Arda Guler, Jude Bellingham and even Brahim Diaz filling the attacking midfielder role. And with the rumored return of Nico Paz next summer, signing the Hungarian just seems petty and unnecessary from Florentino Perez.
