As with any other Madrid derby, a number of incidents grabbed the headlines in the following days, the most polarizing of which being Fede Valverde's sending off. Much debate has been made about whether or not Valverde deserved to get shown a red card, however in the end the referee's decision stood and after a few days of waiting, we now know how long Valverde will be suspended for his straight red card.
As being reported by theMadridZone on X, Fede Valverde has received a one match ban following his red card against Atletico Madrid meaning the midfielder will miss Real's trip to Mallorca when clubs return from international break.
Fede Valverde's suspension for Madrid derby red card is now known
Valverde was dismissed in the 78th minute for a tackle from behind on Atleti's Alex Banea in a decision that has been polarizing in the footballing world. While the tackle was from behind, it wasn't nearly as rash of a challenge as we've seen in the past and Valverde did have a slight touch on the ball so to receive a straight red card caught many by surprise.
The referee's on field decision stood and there was no intervention from VAR and despite protests from Real Madrid Valverde will have to serve his suspension whether he deserved to get sent off or not.
The Uruguayan luckily only received a one match ban and not the initially expected two or three match ban so in that aspect Real Madrid were able to avoid a truly terrible outcome. They should be happy with one game. However missing out on Valverde for even one match could prove to be costly. The midfielder is Real's most in form player, bagging seven goals and one assist in his last seven games, and has been the main driving force behind the recent success Alvaro Arbeloa has been finding.
Arbeloa will surely call on either Jude Bellingham or Eduardo Camavinga to fill in for the Uruguayan against Mallorca on April 4th, a match that despite missing their most in form player, Real are surely favorites to take home all three points once club football resumes.
