Real Madrid star left winger Vinicius Junior is having a phenomenal 2026 World Cup for Brazil, and while it is a bit weird to term a two time Champions League winner and certified superstar's tournament as a breakout one, it does feel like Vini is finally coming into his own with the Selecao and seizing the moment as the new face of the team after Neymar's decline.
In 2026, only Harry Kane has scored more goals than Vini Jr., and with four goals in three World Cup games and the Man of the Match award in all three of the appearances for Brazil, the Real Madrid man is reminding everyone of his value in world football.
The thing is, he still hasn't been valued by his current club, because Vinicius Jr. is only on one year left on his contract heading into the 2026/27 season. Renewal talks between Vini and Real Madrid have been slow, and while there is little urgency from both sides and no real panic from president Florentino Perez, Madridistas are quietly worried that Real will lose him and only move forward with Kylian Mbappe.
Florentino Perez is backing Vinicius Junior
According to a report from Miguel Serrano, via the Madrid Zone, Real Madrid are finally about to get serious about extending Vinicius Junior this summer transfer window. Not only is Florentino set to take over the negotiations personally, but Serrano reports that Real are making Vini their clear priority and want to sign him to a new contract before they go after Flo's new obsession on the right wing, Bayern Munich ace Michael Olise.
It is obvious that Vinicius Jr. wants to stay at Real Madrid. He has put his blood, sweat, and tears into this thing and has shown Madrid the utmost love and respect since Florentino Perez took a chance on him from Flamengo. You don't win two Champions League titles as one of the team's top two stars in those years by accident.
Michael Olise is an insane player coming off an even better season than Vinicius Jr., but Vini is the OG and has two Champions Leagues to Olise's zero. He is the one who is a tried and true Madridista, and you have to keep him and give him what he wants and what is fair before entertaining a 222 million euro (or more) record splash for a new winger. Olise and Kylian Mbappe are brewing something special for France, and Olise may very well green light a transfer to the Bayern Munich brass. But before that, Real Madrid and Florentino seem ready to make Vini an even richer man.
