Rodri was recently asked about a Real Madrid transfer in the future. To which, he answered, but gave incredibly mixed signals.
Rodri is a polarising figure at Real Madrid. On the one hand, he is a former Atletico Madrid player but on the other hand, he is linked to a Real Madrid transfer in the future. This, combined with winning the Ballon d'Or ahead of Vinicius Junior, makes him a Marmite figure at Real Madrid.
The Man City midfielder is never one to shy away from talking to the media. In fact, he risked getting himself in trouble by the English football bodies, when he questioned the mounting pressure on players' schedules.
Now, Rodri has spoken about the potential of a Real Madrid transfer in the future.
Rodri sends mixed signals when talking openly about Real Madrid transfer
Rodri has not ruled out playing for Real Madrid in the future. In fact, he paid Los Blancos an incredible compliment by claiming that he'd be honoured to be considered by the best club in the world.
In his own words (quoted by Adriana Garcia of ESPN), Rodri said: "Obviously when Madrid, the best and most successful club in history, calls you, it is an honour. You always have to pay attention."
This is all well and good and it perks the interests of Real Madrid fans. However, Rodri then went onto say that at the same time, he loves England and that he could certainly retire in the Premier League.
Continuing, Rodri contradicts: "I don't look too far ahead but it's a possibility that I could perfectly end my career in England. It's a country that has given me everything, I have fallen in love with football there."
So, where does Rodri truly sit? The answer is on the fence.
Or at least, he is presenting himself as sitting on the fence to the media. Unfortunately, this is not new as players have been PR trained to the maximum degree.
Of course, when it comes down to making the decision behind closed doors, players do not need to worry about PR. They can reveal their true intentions to their agents and that message is communicated.
So, fans should not pay too much attention to what a player has to say to the media. Messages have been filtered to the finest detail, to the point that press conferences are beoming more and more meaningless as time elapses.
