Real Madrid star Rodrygo Goes is often the forgotten man in the club's attack, and though Jude Bellingham warned the media and fans not to forget about the "R" before the 2024/25 season, the Brazilian international has not been able to impose himself since Kylian Mbappe's arrival.

But far from it being Mbappe's fault, a combination of poor play and injuries have derailed Rodrygo's career. Following a torn ACL in March against, of all teams, Getafe in La Liga, the 25 year old's career is at a devastating crossroads.

Even before the injury, Rodrygo was playing poorly, pretty much anonymous under multiple managers, just as he was in the 2024/25 season, after which he annoyed Real Madrid fans by dragging out a transfer saga before finally, mercifully deciding to stay.

Real Madrid need Rodrygo Goes back

Everyone is rooting for the 2021/22 Champions League hero and one of the stars of the 2023/24 Champions League triumph to finally succeed at Real Madrid, but with Florentino Perez now obsessed with left footed Bayern Munich Frenchman Michael Olise on the right wing, Rodrygo has to come back with a vengeance and make his mark quickly.

Although the Brazilian star has been quiet, Rodrygo delivered an injury update to the fans that is a promising one, reassuring fans that his recovery from the ACL tear is going well.

He said to Diario AS, via Madrid Xtra, “I’m doing very well. I’m happy with my progress; I feel better every day. It’s a process that requires a lot of patience. There are days when you don’t wake up feeling so good, and other days when you wake up feeling great, when you think you could go out and play. You have to be patient with this process. But I'm doing well, I'm happy. The feedback I've received has all been positive.”

All Real Madrid fans are hoping for with Rodrygo Goes is for the young man to return in his prime, fully recovered, and without losing that trademark quickness that made him so dangerous in and out of the box. Even if he is only a backup, a Rodrygo willing to stay in that role behind Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior is still a game changer who can win you trophies, just as he did on that fateful night in the semifinal against Manchester City in 2022.

Nobody knows when Rodrygo will come back or what the future holds for him, but if this is another Eden Hazard or Marco Asensio story, Madrdidistas will shed no shortage of tears.
