With Brazil desperate and in need of a goal again, former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti brought on his former Madrid forward Endrick for the final half hour of the game against Norway. Although Endrick was a second half sub in the previous Round of 32 clash against Japan that Brazil won at the death, the Selecao would not emerge from this fight with Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard unscathed.
Brazil lost 2-1 to Norway, and Endrick was one of the most disappointing players on the pitch. Although he could at least move and pose a threat to the Norway defense, unlike fellow sub Neymar, he missed the biggest chance of the game besides the Bruno Guimaraes penalty, flubbing over the ball with a heavy touch before sending his finish well wide of the goal, taking the wrong option with the poked finish using the outside of his left foot with nothing to aim at.
Even besides this horrible miss in which he wasted another world class trivela pass from Vinicius Junior, Endrick had a terrible game. He did not create any chances, his touch was very heavy, and he had a net negative impact, looking too big for the moment.
Endrick was not up for it
Now, Endrick was incredible in the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Lyon, and Real Madrid fans know as well as anyone that he is a huge talent and will come good - even the Brazil fans are always happy to see him on the pitch.
But there is no mincing words here. Endrick did not look ready for the biggest of moments against Norway, and he played a horrible game in the Round of 16. And former Brazil national team legend Romario is among those not afraid to deliver this harsh truth to the fans.
Romario said on his show (NSFW language), via Liberta Depre, "I like Endrick, he's going to be a player who'll bring us a lot of joy, but yesterday he was terrible. And a lot of people say: 'Ah, but Endrick is young'; f*** if he's young! He has to make the damn goal."
While Romario can come off as grating and a bit self absorbed with some of his statements after his playing career, there is no doubting two things about the former Selecao forward. Firstly, he was an incredible player and one of the best to ever lace them up. And two, he is not afraid to tell it like it is, no matter how it comes off. Endrick had a terrible World Cup. He has to do better in that spot, regardless of his age. And Real Madrid fans have to acknowledge that much.
