Prior to Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final clash between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, former Real Madrid Sami Khedira gave his thoughts on Michael Olise potentially playing for Real Madrid one day, and following the result of the match, Khedira was even more right than maybe even he thought.
While speaking with AS, the German went on to say:
"He’s perfect for Real Madrid. It would be very strange if Real Madrid didn’t seriously consider him. Real Madrid doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on older, established stars. They prefer to invest in developing players who have at least six or eight years of their careers ahead of them. At 24, Olise meets these requirements. He offers a complete solution and fits perfectly with the club’s vision"Sami Khedira
Sami Khedira hit the nail on the head with Michael Olise and Real Madrid
Aside from the points mentioned by Khedira, Olise makes sense for Real Madrid for two reasons. One, his play making ability. The Frenchman has far and away been the best playmaker in Europe this season, with an astounding 29 assists across all competitions to go along with his 16 goals he's scored. Los Blancos lack a playmaking winger who brings loads off assists to the table and Olise is just that player. The attacker made mincemeat of the usually defensively strong Alvaro Carreras making him look like an inexperienced academy player.
Secondly, he's left footed. Real Madrid's attacking line is right foot lopsided, Vinicius Jr, Kylian Mbappe, and Rodrygo are all right footed players. leaving the right wing to players like Brahim Diaz and Franco Mastantuono, who while yes are left footed, are not nearly the level of player Olise is. When looking back at the iconic, Bale-Benzema-Ronaldo front three, Bale occupied that left footed attacker spot and it added a whole nother layer to the Real Madrid attack, something this current team is desperately lacking.
If Khedira's point wasn't clear before Tuesday's matchup, it's crystal clear afterwards. Manule Neuer grabbed the man of the match award but you can make the argument Olise was Bayern's best and most dangerous player across the 90 minutes, grabbing an assist on Harry Kane's goal at the start of the second half. Olise looked at home on the Bernabeu pitch, giving Real Madrid fans a taste of their wildest dream.
However, unfortunately it's never gonna happen. Olise is one of Vincent Kompany's start players and with a value of €140 million, and Bayern sure to ask for a fee that trumps Neymar's €222 million fee to even consider selling the player (which won't happen) the only way Michael Olise will ever player for Real Madrid is in FIFA.
