Every time the Real Madrid man takes the pitch, records fall, and after scoring his 20th career World Cup goal to help sink Morocco in the quarterfinals, Mbappe is ready to take on a familiar opponent in Spain.
Plaudits are coming from all corners, and even those affiliated with Barcelona have to admit that what Mbappe is doing this summer is special. He and Lionel Messi are going toe to toe on the goal charts for not only this year's Golden Boot race, but also for the all time record, with Mbappe now neck and neck with a player several years his senior.
Although legendary Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto'o played for Real Madrid early in his career, he is most closely associated with Barcelona as a two time Champions League winner and a three time La Liga champion with the Blaugrana.

Even Eto'o had to admit that Kylian Mbappe is a historic player. The La Liga legend said of the French national team icon, via Madrid Xtra, “Kylian? He’s a phenomenon. He has already left his mark on generations.”
Generations. Let that word reverberate. Mbappe holds several World Cup goal scoring records even though he has only just entered his prime at 27, and after being so close to making it two out of two World Cups, you can see he has all that motivation to capture the trophy this year.
Samuel Eto'o has no love lost for Real Madrid after they did not value him, and he is a huge Barcelona legend and one of the best strikers of all time. Barcelona fans, who are in love with their own gem in Lamine Yamal, may not want to admit it, but Mbappe is a generational player who is going to be spoken about forever and ever.
Now, for Real Madrid fans, the key is seeing how can Jose Mourinho and the club get him to make this sort of a mark in La Liga and the Champions League, as he has never won either competition in his caerer. His grace on the international stage has not yet extended fully to the Santiago Bernabeu, and that is his next step. Yet, as Eto'o has said, even with that caveat, he has still more than made his mark in history.
