Real Madrid are going to do whatever they can to sign Michael Olise away from Bayern Munich this summer transfer window, as he is the clear No. 1 transfer target for Florentino Perez despite Jose Mourinho still wanting one more top center backs, perhaps Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni, to fill out his new look defense.
Olise has been on Perez's list since the Champions League quarterfinals when he shredded up Alvaro Carreras and a susepct Real Madrid defense, and his interest in the player has only increased after Olise impressed on the world stage with the French national team despite a semifinal exit at the hands of new Madridista Marc Cucurella at left back.
There is a lot of optimism from Spanish and French media sources, as well as encouraging signs from Fabrizio Romano and other more international transfer insiders, but those in Germany are singing a different tune about the Olise transfer.
Real Madrid can't get ahead of themselves
In his latest news update on the situation, Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg is reporting that Bayern Munich are not at all threatened by the information from L'Equipe that Michael Olise wants to go to Real Madrid and that the Merengues are imminently preparing a new transfer offer for the player.
Plettenberg says that Bayern are still planning on giving Olise a new contract with a raise that will make him a top three earner at the club and keep him in Bavaria. They also note that Olise's current contract through 2029 has no clauses or ways for him to leave. Bayern do not think they can be pressured into selling by Real Madrid and maintain unanimous support to keep him behind closed doors. They are shutting down all talks of a move this summer, even as they reportedly acknowledge that he could become a topic for a departure in the future due to Madrid's profound interest.
The problem with transfer sagas like this one is that each country's reporting will relay what the big club there wants to have, because that is who is supplying the information. It is not a question of bias, but rather the story behind shared from each side.
So it is very interesting that in France, they are acting as though Michael Olise is already packing his bags to Madrid, while even Spain is a bit more measured than that. But at the end of the day, Real Madrid have to realize that Bayern still hold all the cards. As Sky Sports say, Olise is under contract at Bayern, he is their player, and they have no reason to sell. The burden is on Madrid to convince Bayern to sell.
