After watching Endrick break out for Lyon in the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan, Real Madrid fans were excited to see what he would be able to do at the 2026 World Cup this summer. Former Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti did not actually use Endrick much as his manager in the 2024/25 season, but even in his first campaign at the club from Palmeiras, the teenage forward was getting more chances under Carlo, particularly in the Copa del Rey, than under Xabi Alonso last season.
But instead of playing a crucial role or starting for Brazil on the right wing or the center forward positions, Ancelotti has opted for Manchester United veteran Matheus Cunha in the middle and Bournemouth breakout star Rayan on the right hand side. And to be honest, you can't fault Carlo for this decision, especially the Rayan case, with how dynamic the Premier League standout has been.
Nonetheless, Endrick is seen as a great hope in Brazil, spoken about in revered tones by even veteran players in the country. And you can tell the Brazil fans, not just the Madridistas, are wanting to see more of him. He did finally get some more minutes off the bench against Japan with 45 minutes of action in the Round of 32 of the World Cup, so there is hope that more can be coming. But even then, he really did not do much in that action.
Endrick does not appear to be important to Carlo Ancelotti
Part of the responsibility is on Endrick, but part of it is on Carlo Ancelotti for giving Endrick mere scraps to feed on. Because before the 45 minute cameo off the bench against Japan, Endrick was only playing a combined 34 minutes in his two other appearances in the three group stage games for the Selecao, which came against lowly Haiti and Scotland.
Real Madrid fans want to see more of Endrick and a more rapid development from the player. There is optimism with Jose Mourinho consistently relaying through both the Spanish and international media that he sees Endrick as crucial and will give him significant minutes in the middle or right side of the attack, but given his talent level and what he did for Lyon this season, Madridistas think he has merited more minutes from one of their own, Carletto.
There is still time left, and Brazil are confirmed to be facing Norway and Erling Haaland in the next round of the World Cup. But so far, Real Madrid fans have no real reason to get their hopes up for more Endrick.
