These are really weird, confusing times at Real Madrid. Dressing room fights, player power, wild press conferences, leaks, elections - everything is happening, and none of it is good.

Real Madrid have now let go of three coaches in the last year or so, in Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa.

Now, they are looking at Jose Mourinho as the man who would be able to at least fix the dressing room issues, as well as the problems on the pitch, while the rest of the club tries to figure other things out.

However, new electoral candidate Enrique Riquelme has now come in and made a plea of his own, saying that he would sign two big superstars if he is able to become the new president of Real Madrid, as well as go for a long-term project rather than covering gaps with coaches like Mourinho.

In fact, the deal with Mourinho is basically done, according to every single reliable journalist there is in the world, but the only problem is that until the elections happen and Florentino Perez wins them, Mourinho is now waiting on standby.

Riquelme was asked about bringing in Mourinho, and it is safe to say that if it were him to win the elections, Mourinho will not be coming into the team.

He said: "José Mourinho is a great coach, but in our caase, we believe Real Madrid needs a long-term project for the future, not a short-term band-aid.

"We need to completely change course with a medium-term and long-term project. I'm not a Mourinhista, and I'm not an anti-Mourinhista, I'm a Madridista."

It is also worth noting that because of this delay due to the election, Real Madrid would now reportedly have to pay a bigger release clause to acquire Mourinho's services. Until Tuesday, Real Madrid would only have to pay seven million euros as a release clause. After that, they would have to pay 15 million euros, which is more than double the price.

So, it does not matter whether Riquelme wins the elections or not, he is at least trying to delay everything around Mourinho as much as possible. It is clear with his quotes that he would want a manager like Jurgen Klopp to be managing the team, and not Mourinho.

However, no matter how much he actually tries, Mourinho will join for whatever fee Real Madrid would have to pay Benfica if Perez remains president. At the moment, it is highly likely that Perez would continue as the president, which means that all of Riquelme's attempts at hiring someone else and making a change could go in vain.

He knows that, though, and it is nice to see someone standing up for it, even if they probably won't win. If Riquelme does win, it will be interesting how that impacts the club's relationship with Mourinho, but a lot of things would have to go Riquelme's way for that to happen.
