Enrique Riquelme is pushing hard to become the next president of Real Madrid, and it will take a Herculean effort indeed for the Cox Energy founder and CEO to unseat one of the biggest legends of the club in Florentino Perez, a man who has spent the last decade practically printing Champions Leagues.

But with Real Madrid going trophyless in two straight seasons and PSG now winning back to back Champions Leagues to gon the verge of threatening Real's record three peat, Perez is feeling the heat and Riquelme is seeing an opening to win.

Riquelme has a lot to prove, though, and he is therefore trying to prove to the faithful Madridistas that he has big plans for them. He is blowing a lot of smoke about two superstar signings he is bringing to the club, one from Spain and one abroad, and he is also mentioning the name of Rodri a lot - a known transfer target from Manchester City who Perez appears to be a bit lukewarm on despite being an option.

Enrique Riquelme is on the right track with one signing

Now, according to a report from COPE, via the Madrid Zone, Rodri's entourage has now confirmed that there have indeed been talks between their camp and Enrique Riquelme over the last few days. They deny any formal negotaitions or agreement, though, so Riquelme's strong language that he will bring the former Ballon d'Or winner to the Santiago Bernabeu still remains a huge question mark.

However, Riquelme has indeed spoken to Rodri's reps, and that means that there is some legitimacy to what the presidential hopeful is proclaiming to everyone. Now, the talks between Rodri and Riquelme may not have been productive, and they may be too far apart on figures for them to even be legitimate talks. That is still unclear here.

But they did happen. Rodri is on the radar of the man who wants to win the presidency at Real Madrid from Florentino Perez, and, for the average fan, that means, in general, Rodri is indeed an option. Rodri himself a couple of months ago was openly talking about how much he wants to go to Real Madrid and how his history with Atletico Madrid would not stop him from being a faithful Madridista who respects his old Ballon d'Or and Champions League knockout rival Vinicius Junior.

If Riquelme can have a Rodri signature delivered as a feather in his cap to being elected, then maybe, combined with a couple of other moves, he can get somewhere with the Madridistas.
