Ever since the retirement of Toni Kroos and the departure of Luka Modric, the Real Madrid midfield has desperately been lacking a tempo controlling midfielder and it has cost the team major trophies these last two years. As a result the club has been scouring the transfer market for their perfect midfielder and has been linked with every name imaginable and Jose Mourinho finally landed on his man, Rodri.
However, Real Madrid sat on their hands too long and are about to miss out, with the Spaniard set to join rivals Barcelona. Real Madrid are now scrambling to find a midfielder to before the window closes but are struggling to find any despite there being a number of top class options Real Madrid could bring in, who are all younger than Rodri and could give more years to the club, let's look at three options Real Madrid should consider signing before the transfer window closes if they hope to secure they future of the midfield for years to come.
Real Madrid's midfield reinforcement hunt still continues
1. Chema Andres, Stuttgart
Firstly we have a player Real Madrid fans are very familiar with, Chema Andres. Chema came through the Real Madrid academy system before being sold to Stuttgart last summer, and been having quite the time with the German side. Still only 21-years-old Chema has shown immense development after just one season in the Bundesliga, and has the poise, calmness, and football IQ on the ball that the midfield is in desperate need of, and with Real Madrid holding a €10 million buy-back clause, bringing Chema back to the Bernabeu would be a simple deal for Los Blancos to get done for Jose Mourinho before the season starts.
Angelo Stiller, Stuttgart
Next we'll look at Chema's midfield partner at Stuttgart, Angelo Stiller. The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to a top European club the last few years but nothing has materialized, a situation Real Madrid should be quick to pounce on. The German brings a wide passing range, similar calmness as Chema, and the defensive work rate Jose Mourinho looks for in his deeper laying midfield players, and for only €45 million, it could prove to be a bargain of a deal in the long-term.
Joao Neves, PSG
Lastly we have the most unrealistic option but still an option nonetheless, PSG midfielder Joao Neves. The Portuguese international has established himself as one of the best and most underrated midfielders in the world following PSG's back-to-back Champions League winning campaigns and has all the attributes Jose Mourinho looks for in a midfielder. The Portuguese had disappointing World Cup after all he achieved with PSG which could have turned clubs off from thinking about moving for the midfielder, add on top of that his €140 million price tag and it doesn't look like he'll be leaving Paris anytime soon.
