Things may already be starting to click under manager Jose Mourinho, who has to feel that his squad has the potential to win the double again if they can continue to play like this. Here are the three most important players to the Royal White cause accomplishing exactly that this season.
CM Jude Bellingham
Jude Bellingham is undoubtedly the most important player to Real Madrid's success this season, and it is telling that when combining both of the first two matches of the 2026/27 La Liga campaign, Jude has been the best player on the team.
His overall impact as a midfielder is beyond profound, and the way he is playing in that No. 10 role with his pressing, running, progression, and ability to crash the box and score goals is so invaluable. He opens up the offense for everyone else and is like having a defensive midfielder on the attacking end, so dangerous is his pressing.
GK Thibaut Courtois
Thibaut Courtois is starting to get up there in age, but he is as fine of a goalkeeper as there is on this planet and has shown no signs of slowing down. The security he brings to the table in goal for Real Madrid has been beyond words over the years, and he has no significant weaknesses at all. Andriy Lunin is a great backup, but it tells you how great Courtois is that there is still a substantial drop off between himself and the Ukrainian keeper.
CF Kylian Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe showed the world his value again at the club level, scoring a world class hat trick for Real Madrid in their 4-1 win over Real Sociedad. The Frenchman has looked far more lively in the last three matches, including the final preseason friendly against fallen German giants FC Schalke 04, in a more free role as a center forward, as Jude Bellingham allows him to drift and sway throughout the front three just like he gets to do for Les Bleus when he is at his best.
Real Madrid have so many other candidates for the top three most important players like new midfielder Bernardo Silva, new left back Marc Cucurella, and, of course, Vinicius Junior, but Mbappe's ability to score goals and how he can make or break a team with his effort -or lack thereof - seals his spot in terms of importance to Madrid.
