Real Madrid are closing in on the signing of Manchester City star Bernardo Silva, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that a Here We Go on a two year contract will be coming soon.
Los Blancos were not initially all that interested in Silva, but the appointment of Jose Mourinho changed things, with the Portuguese manager wanting his fellow Jorge Mendes client badly to help the character and team work in the dressing room, as he loves Silva's intangibles.
Here is a look at how Real Madrid could line up in games that Silva, who won't be a regular starter, is in the main Mourinho XI. The formation would have to be tweaked to a 3-5-2, with Mou reportedly willing to utilize a back three at times.
GK Thibaut Courtois
CB Dean Huijsen
CB Antonio Rudiger
CB Eder Militao
The ideal Real Madrid back three would include another new signing, with Jose Mourinho keen on adding Bernardo Silva's Manchester City teammate Josko Gvardiol as a left back or center back. For now, Dean Huijsen plays on the left side with a healthy Eder Militao opposite of him, and the aging Antonio Rudiger getting to man the middle in a role that allows him to embrace being more aggressive as the Libero.
LM Bernardo Silva
CM Jude Bellingham
CM Fede Valverde
RM Trent Alexander-Arnold
Bernardo Silva's signing most directly impacts Eduardo Camavinga, a younger and more robust box to box player who does not have the same intangibles or consistency, particularly in reading the game. Silva will hang inside and out on the left so that Real Madrid can use Trent Alexander-Arnold or Denzel Dumfries as a playmaking wing back.
In the middle, Real Madrid's two best players in terms of week to week performance continue to start, and with a back three, Jude Bellingham and Fede Valverde can move back and forth instead of worrying about playing as 6's or staying back.
AM Arda Guler
FW Vinicius Junior
FW Kylian Mbappe
Since Real Madrid can have seven players working hard up and down the pitch to recover possession, there is more room for the Real Madrid front three to focus on creating and pressing, rather than tracking back as much.
Arda Guler is the key to Jose Mourinho's attack working, as he is the new manager's Mesut Ozil and main playmaker. Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe get to play off each other in a fluid front two in this formation, which is the setup that benefited Vini Jr. back in the 2023/24 season.
