It's safe to say this season has been an unmitigated disaster for Real Madrid. From the Xabi Alonso drama, the Arbeloa drama, unrest between players and management, and fights between players have led to a major overhaul expected to take place at the club this summer. Jose Mourinho is expected to come in to lead this new project but the manager isn't the only issue, the players need to shoulder some of the blame for the current state of the club as well and need to be assessed by the club and according to the latest reports, the club is still continuing to ignore the biggest issue within the team.
As being reported by MadridXtra on X, Real Madrid believe the attack does not need any major changes this summer, with the only changes expected to be the returns of Endrick and Nico Paz to the club, with Vinicius Jr, Kylian Mbappe, and Jude Bellingham to remain as the superstar attacking trio next season. One of the biggest issues from this season is expected to carry over into the next leaving many to ask the question, what are Real Madrid doing?
Real Madrid continue to turn a blind eye to their biggest issue
When are Real Madrid going to learn their lesson that the three players cannot play in the same team. We saw Carlo Ancelotti fail at getting the trio to work last season, Xabi Alonso and Arbeloa this season, so history tells us that Jose Mourinho will fail at getting the trio to work as well. Mourinho has worked miracles in his career before but even this may prove to be too tall a task for him, and just adding Nico Paz and Endrick to the attack won't fix anything, it will actually make the issue worse.
The biggest issue with the trio is they like to occupy the same space and they all want to be the main man grabbing all the goals and the admiration from the fans, which has caused a disconnect between the three player. Vinicius wants to play on the left, Mbappe wants to play on the left, and Bellingham tends to drift over to the left when he gets into more attacking positions and he is the one making a majority of runs into the box instead of Mbappe who is supposed to be the main target man... are we seeing the issue? Forcing all three into the same team just won't work no matter who the manager is, and the club refuses to acknowledge this.
And let's say the club adds Endrick and Nico Paz to the attack, where are they going to play? Assuming the rumors are true and the club sells Gonzalo Garcia, Endrick would be the only natural striker in the team so he would have to play through the middle, which means one of Mbappe or Vinicius would have to play out of position on the right-wing and we all know neither of them will want to do that. So if Mbappe continued to play through the middle that would mean Endrick would have to play out of position on the right, setting up the Brazilian to fail just as we saw last season. And with Bellingham and Nico Paz occupying the same midfield role, one of them will have to sit to fit everyone else in the team, and we all know it'll be Paz who sits, so what would even be the point in bringing him back?
The only way to fix the issues is to sell one of the three players, but who? Many would point to Vinicius being the biggest issue with his antics but we've seen multiple times this season Vini and Bellingham play well together when Mbappe is out leading many to say the Frenchman should be sold. But he's always been Florentino Perez's dream and doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. After this disastrous season the club has a number of problems to fix this season, with their star trio being the biggest but unfortunately it seems like it's unfixable.
