Last season was difficult for Real Madrid in a number of ways. You couldn't count with two hands the number of problems the club had to deal with throughout the campaign.
Some of those issues were in Carlo Ancelotti’s control, but he did not fully address them.
Others were down to the club itself, the players, or simply bad luck. One of the biggest problems that was not really in the players', manager's, or higher-ups' control was injuries.
It felt like every single player was breaking down with each passing game, which was incredibly frustrating for fans to watch.
While part of the blame could be placed on the club for not signing more players to increase squad depth, there might also be questions for the medical staff.
Real Madrid have taken a huge step in the right direction
According to a report from Mario Cortegana and Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, Real Madrid have decided to replace several members of the medical department in response to the issues of last season.
The club do not want a repeat of what they experienced and were probably really worried by the situation.
This was not purely a sporting decision, although sporting reasons played a major role.
There were also differences among members of the medical staff, which made the decision easier. There could be a few more changes before the start of next season.
The hope now is that Real Madrid will not face a similar injury crisis next time around, because that would be more than problematic. Panic buttons will be pressed more than once.
They have more players in the squad, a new coach who trusts both young talents and experienced stars, and an openness to promoting academy players.
With a revamped medical team in place, if the injury situation does not improve, then nothing might - and the club may be doomed to repeat last year’s struggles. Every Real Madrid fan would hope that does not happen, though, and that these problems improve drastically.
