Real Madrid star Endrick wants to stay at Real Madrid, according to a report from The Athletic.
In fact, another post from journalist Sergio Valentín talked about how Real Madrid have rejected an offer from Italy for Endrick and will continue to do so unless the player explicitly asks to leave the club this season.
According to both, José Mourinho has been impressed with the work that Endrick has put in during pre-season so far.
It is also worth noting that the player is amazingly talented, so it makes sense why the club doesn't want to part ways with him this summer. But there is also another thing to understand, and that is the main problem with the whole situation.
Real Madrid signed Carlos Espí from Levante a few weeks ago. Now you place another striker alongside Kylian Mbappé, and then you place another right winger in Yan Diomande alongside Brahim Díaz.
Endrick needs minutes to improve as a football player
Both of those positions have been occupied by Endrick over the last couple of seasons, whether it was at Lyon or at Real Madrid.
Now Real Madrid have at least two players for both positions, which makes it difficult for him to get minutes unless he forces his way through.
He is definitely not going to start over Kylian Mbappé up front, and judging by the amount of money that Real Madrid are spending on Diomande, he probably will not be starting ahead of him either.
So, as it stands, he is, at best, the second-choice striker and the second-choice right winger.
Another thing to consider as a striker is that Espí has been brought in to be the physical presence up front for Real Madrid when they desperately need to score headers against low-block teams or defend crosses inside their own box against physically dominant opponents in tight matches.
Obviously, that doesn't mean Endrick will not play, but it will be difficult to see him get a substantial amount of minutes unless he forces his way into the team.
That alone is a possibility because, in his first pre-season game, Endrick looked really good, and the entirety of his spell at Lyon was great. He has improved quite a bit since he left Real Madrid last time around, and now it just depends on the role that he will get at the club.
On the flip side, though, this might just be Real Madrid's backup plan for a Vinícius Júnior sale. If he is sold, then Endrick automatically gets a starting spot, whether at striker or on the right wing.
If Mbappé moves to the left, Endrick goes up front. If Diomande moves to the left, Endrick goes to the right wing.
That is the only logical explanation you can give because otherwise it just doesn't make sense for Endrick to be sitting on the bench when he could be developing as a football player even more than he already is.
At this young age, he needs game time, and unless Real Madrid are convinced that he will get a lot of minutes under Mourinho this season, a temporary move should be on the cards for the Brazilian.
However, if Vinícius Júnior is leaving, then obviously that changes a lot of things.
It remains to be seen what ends up happening at Real Madrid, and either way, it will be a very interesting saga to follow.
