It is as much about Barça playing as well as they are, as it is about Real Madrid playing absolutely poorly this season so far. They have already lost 2 games, and it does not seem like things will improve unless Jose Mourinho starts to make some drastic changes to the team.
Now, in theory, a 6-point lead as early as September is a good thing for Barcelona, but it also isn't worth thinking about for Real Madrid. The season is long, and Barcelona will have injuries. They would also have slip-ups, and the two teams have yet to play against each other.
In theory, it is still possible for Real Madrid to win the league, but here's the catch: Real Madrid have only won the league once after being six points behind league leaders Barcelona, and that was in 2006-2007 under Fabio Capello as manager.
Apart from that instance, Real Madrid have never won the league when they were six points behind or more against Barcelona. That is a shocking stat because six points is basically two games.
Real Madrid are not consistent enough to overturn this deficit anyway
If Real Madrid are able to keep their consistency going, inevitably Barcelona will slip up one day, and those Blancos can capitalise on it. If you've only done it once in your entire history, chances are you’re probably not going to do it again this season.
Obviously, never say never, and hopefully Real Madrid are able to pull that off this season, but as it stands, it doesn't look like Real Madrid are going to win the league.
This statistic is a clear indication of that, but also, it's not the only indication because Barcelona are playing some of the best football they've played since Lionel Messi left the club. It is possibly the best football they have played in a very long time, and every single one of Barcelona's players at the moment looks absolutely unbeatable.
Obviously, it is not completely perfect, and they will have some blips here and there, which Real Madrid can capitalise on, but Real Madrid can only do that and win the league if they also don't have blips of their own, which is just impossible to think about at this point.
They already lost two games in the season, and it just does not seem like Real Madrid have it in them to make a long run, to make a long winning streak to beat Barcelona in the league. A lot of the season is still to go. There are still 31 games left in the campaign in the league, but at the moment, things look atrocious for Real Madrid.
