The ideal Manchester City signing for Real Madrid isn't Erling Haaland or Rodri

The elections are finally over, and it is now confirmed that Florentino Perez will stay as Real Madrid president for the next four years.

Enrique Riquelme had a few really weird moments, and actually laid out a few problems that Perez should at least consider, for example the interference with the manager, or the growth of women's football at the club.

Another one of Riquelme's failed promises was a guarantee to sign Erling Haaland and Rodri for Real Madrid, should he be elected as president.

No one heard any truth or lie about Rodri, but the Haaland guarantee was categorically denied by the player's agent.

Josko Gvardiol is the player Real Madrid need

However, it is worth noting that even if Riquelme was elected, he should not have gone for these players. And Perez, if he is somehow reading this article, should probably look at another player that could help the club even more.

Josko Gvardiol, for the last four years, has been talked about as a brilliant defender. Before that, he was called one of the very biggest talents in his position, and everyone is now seeing the reason why.

Gvardiol is the best centre-back / left-back hybrid that football has to offer at the moment, and if it weren't for some bad form and unfortunate injuries, he would be valued even more.

Real Madrid, if they look at the centre-back department and aren't happy, should 100% go for Gvardiol, no matter how much money it costs.

Obviously, Gvardiol recently said that he is happy at Manchester City, but he left a bit of the door open by saying that he'll see 'after the World Cup'.

That is the opening Real Madrid need, and that is what they need to target. Real Madrid desperately need a defender, even after signing Ibrahima Konate, and the Croatian would be the perfect fit.

Not only would he slot in on the left centre-back spot, he would immediately raise the team's ceiling.

Gvardiol's versatility is also one of his best traits, and his ability to play as a left-back would also massively help Real Madrid, as that is the one position they just cannot get anyone down for.

Gvardiol would help the club more as a central defender, but having that option to play him on the left is going to be so important.

Of course, the club should still look at the midfielders market to see if there is anyone available, but signing Gvardiol would be a fantastic piece of business to start Perez's new era.
