Who doesn't love a good transfer rumor right? See the rumors of who your club could be linked with and what potential signings the could make always gets fans excited and gives them something to talk about and look forward to during the transfer windows.
And given the size of a club like Real Madrid and the amount of star power in the squad, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone when Madrid players are mentioned in transfer rumors. We've seen rumors linking other clubs to moves for a handful of different Los Blancos players so far this season and given we're now in the January transfer window, those rumors won't be stopping anytime soon.
The most recent name to be brought up in transfer rumors is that of new arrival Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Englishman arrived in the summer to quite the polarizing reaction from those in England, with many questioning his decision to leave after everything he's done for his boyhood club.
It's quite understandable that fans and media in England want the best English players to play in the Premier League and that is no different with Trent. His name has come up recently with rumors of a return to England, but we are just days into the new year, and we already have the most ridiculous transfer rumor of 2026.
The most ridiculous Real Madrid transfer rumor to start 2026
As being reported by SportBible, Manchester United are planning a €40 million bid for Trent Alexander-Arnold as they look to be his lifeline for a return to England after his less than ideal start to life at Madrid.
However, let's be honest, we all know this rumor is absolutely ridiculous. Under no circumstances will Madrid sell Trent Alexander-Arnold just months after his highly anticipated arrival at Los Blancos. While yes his injury struggles have given the player a rough start to life in the Spanish capital, he has shown no desire to leave, and has actually been one of Real's best players in the few matches he's played.
The Englishman has only appeared in a handful of games for Madrid this season, but has been sensational in those games, and his absence can be felt in a big way. His creativity and passing range that covers pretty much the whole pitch are second to none and there is no one else in the squad who is able to fill those creative shoes while he's sidelined.
Alexander-Arnold is expected to be a key player in Xabi Alonso's system and a key figure for the future of Madrid and won't be going anywhere anytime soon. And even if he were to return to the Premier League, if Liverpool fans were angered by him leaving to join Madrid, just imagine the outrage if his return to England was with their bitter rivals.
