Real MAdrid beat Inter 2-1 at the Bernabeu on Tuesday night in a hugely entertaining game which could have gone anywhere.
That may not be good news for the club, but the point is that they got the job done, which was the most important thing after the loss to Real Betis on Friday.
Goals from Fede Valverde and Kylian Mbappe were enough, but they weren’t the team’s best outfield players, despite the Uruguayan winning the official player of the match award.
Real Madrid’s best outfield player was Brahim Diaz, and it was brilliant to watch him play on the night.
He not only recorded an assist to Mbappe’s goal, he also provided Real Madrid with so much pressing, hard work and defensive coverage.
This was one of those games where Brahim just takes over. It does not happen too often because the Moroccan international is not consistent enough, but he contributed to all facets of the game, which was amazing to watch.
Brahim Diaz provides more to Real Madrid than just defensive coverage
Brahim worked tirelessly as a midfielder / winger during the entire time Real Madrid did not have the ball. At points, it felt like he was pressing for more than just himself – that Real Madrid were a man down, and he had to do double the work. But of course, he obliged.
Even if you completely disregard Brahim Diaz’s defensive work, which was outstanding, his contributions in attack are going to be something to write home about, too.
Brahim obviously got the assist, but also should have had at least a couple more. His one-touch passing to set teammates up was majestic, as he created so many chances through that alone.
If that weren’t enough, Brahim had a stupidly good dribble which resulted in him getting away from multiple Inter players in a Messi-esque sequence, and his cross to Jude Bellingham somehow did not end up in the back of the net.
‘Stupidly good’ does not even begin to describe the level of talent he showed in that sequence, as it was something that even Real Madrid fans don’t get to see that often from their most talented players.
Brahim is an asset of Real Madrid that keeps being underrated. Everyone knows he provides a lot of value to the team, but no one really gives him enough credit for it. Maybe it is time to start doing so.
It was one of the best performances that Brahim has produced in a long time, and all fans would hope this continues in the long run, too.
