What on Earth is going on at Real Madrid?
It is just confusing. Tuesday has been the worst possible day imaginable for all Real Madrid fans. Firstly, it was announced that Antonio Rudiger will undergo surgery. Then, two more Real Madrid defenders got injured one by one in David Alaba and Ferland Mendy - both of whom are out for the foreseeable future.
Now, apparently Carlo Ancelotti is not going to Brazil. Or so it is being reported.
According to a report by Relevo, Real Madrid were furious at how Ancelotti met with Brazil without the club's permission, and they had frozen the deal for now. Ancelotti asked them to pay him his remaining salary, and the club rejected.
Real Madrid may be furious at Carlo Ancelotti, but what good will that do?
It makes absolutely no sense for Real Madrid to reject the move like that. They wanted him to leave, and they wanted Xabi Alonso to join the club. Now, they are rejecting his move to leave, and for what? It makes absolutely no sense to me.
The Relevo story, which was later confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, says that Real Madrid did not want to pay a severance fee to Ancelotti, who asked for it, and are now blocking the deal from taking place. Real Madrid were not informed about it directly and the money is now a problem, apparently.
Real Madrid wanted him gone, right? It was clear that it was not just Ancelotti who wanted to leave the club for Brazil, but also Real Madrid who wanted this move to happen so that they can move forward with another coach. They lost everything with the manager. It was the right time to move on for both parties. What good would another this weird drama do for the club?
The club's image is already in the trenches these days. It is tough to be a Real Madrid fan and expect normal days. Something or the other just happens. This, however, was at the bottom of my list. Ancelotti wants to leave. Real Madrid clearly do not want him to continue for another season, otherwise they would have said so and nothing like this would have happened. However, this is just hitting themselves with a bullet just to win an argument.
If Real Madrid win this argument, what would they really win? They would not let their departing coach move to Brazil to make way for a better fit. They would have to stick with a grumpy coach who so obviously needs to leave the club. Doing all this makes no sense. If it is about the money, then there could be a discussion around it. Why block the move and put the club's potential future titles in jeopardy just to win an argument and save some money?
Real Madrid need a change of coaches. They need it to be able to win in the future. If they don't do it over pride or principles, it would actually be infuriating for Real Madrid fans who want him gone. It was almost written in the books for it to happen. Now, they are messing everything up.
Hopefully they are able to sort everything out and Ancelotti can leave Real Madrid, but this is not the way to do it.
