Vinicius Junior has the backing of all his Real Madrid teammates, and they have a very strong relationship with all of them – like a brotherhood – according to a report from El Larguero.
Vinicius Junior has been struggling with form, if you want to put it that lightly, and there is a lot of pressure on him to finally start delivering after a huge contract extension earlier this season.
The game against Atletico Madrid was looked as the best way for Vinicius Junior to come back to his best form, as he had the chance to end his bad streak with a good performance against a big team.
That did not end up happening. Despite that, however, his position in the starting XI would be completely safe for one reason alone - which is an opinion, not information.
Player power is huge at Real Madrid, and Vinicius Junior knows that
Real Madrid are a very different club when compared to the rest of Europe’s top teams. First of all, they are the biggest, but they are also run very differently compared to teams like Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain (now) and the like.
Obviously, every top team has top players, but those top teams also have a top manager who has the license to do most of what he likes. The players remain smaller than the club, and the team’s success is more important than whatever the players feel is right.
At Real Madrid, it has always been different. This is not to say the club’s success is not important – one could argue that is the most important thing for any manager – but generally speaking, player power is a real thing at the club.
Look at Xabi Alonso’s case, for example: Real Madrid were doing really well under him for the first 15 matches of the season, until the Clasico substitution happened, and suddenly, everyone was against Alonso and reportedly alongside Vinicius Junior.
These things happen far too often at Real Madrid these days, and despite Vinicius Junior’s bad form, his position in the team is completely safe because every player has a good connection with him, and every player would continue to back him.
Player power is huge at Real Madrid. Mourinho knows that, and because of that, there will be some sort of pressure on this version of Mourinho to keep playing Vinicius Junior, because he would probably know that if this goes badly, then the group of players could go against him like they did Alonso.
However, that is also why Real Madrid need the old version of Mourinho back. The new, calm and collected Mourinho will not work in this team. He needs to go back to his old ways. He needs to be ruthless again. That is the only way this team can move forward, with or without Vinicius Junior’s uptick in form.
