Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe delivered another attacking monster class as France romped past Sweden 3-0 in the World Cup Round of 32 to get the knockout stages off to a predictably swimming start against a side that had no real answers for Mbappe or his attacking teammates.

Watching Mbappe connect with Michael Olise again was tremendous, and it seems like Mbappe is only getting stronger and stronger as the World Cup goes on. After a difficult 2025/26 season in which Mbappe went trophyless again and had to watch as former employers PSG won back to back Champions League titles without him, this is huge to see what may be the best snapshot version of Mbappe at the summer's World Cup.

Impossible to beat on the offsides trap, fluid on the ball, and devastating with his finishing in terms of precision and technique, Mbappe grabbed two more goals to set a new record over Ronaldo Nazario as the all time leading World Cup scorer in the knockout rounds while tying Lionel Messi with six in this year's Golden Boot race and pulling just one behind him on the all time leaderboard, eclipsing the great Miroslav Klose of Germany in the process.

Kylian Mbappe is bringing goals and more to France

Kylian Mbappe is bringing the goals this year, but Real Madrid are continuing to watch a more motivated, well rounded, and complete player at the center forward position. He is making the right moves off the ball instead of getting in the way of others, he is passing on shooting every time and instead looking to his teammates, and his body language and leadership continue to draw rave reviews from French fans - and even Didier Deschamps.

It is obvious that Mbappe needed this spark he is getting at the 2026 World Cup with Micahel Olise, Ousmane Dembele, and the environment of the French national team where the pressure is less, the opposition is easier, and the vibes are more set up to him as the main man rather than sharing the spotlight with Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior.

Now that Mbappe is sharing the spotlight successfully with Dembele and Olise, he can translate that when he goes back to Real Madrid to Vinicius Jr. and Bellingham and starts working with Jose Mourinho, who is undoubtedly watching Mbappe's French performances with real pleasure. Mbappe's brace against Sweden is another reminder of his quality, but also the pep in his step is a reminder of the person Mbappe truly is when he is in a comfortable environment. Real will want to foster that.
