Real Madrid have made a number of poor transfer decisions in their history. Signing the wrong players, letting players go when they shouldn't and these decisions have had a major impact on the team and the success they have in any given season. This has happened a number of times in the last few years but especially when it comes to one player that the club let go that they desperately needed to keep, and after a few years away he looks set for a return to La Liga and he could come back to haunt his former club.
As being reported by Matteo Moretto of RadioMarca, former Real Madrid striker Joselu is not planning on renewing his deal with Qatari side Al-Gharafa that expires in the summer and is a target of Sevilla, however a deal hinges on the Seville side surviving relegation in the last few weeks of the season.
Real Madrid cult hero eyes La Liga return but not to the Bernabeu
It goes without saying that Real Madrid fans would welcome a La Liga return for Joselu, however all would wish it was a return to the Bernabeu. The 36-year-old became a cult hero among Madridistas for his heroics during the 2023/24 season, with his two goals against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final cementing him as a legend at the Bernabeu. Despite being a backup, Joselu was one of the most important players in the squad playing a crucial part in all the success achieved that season.
Joselu is exactly the kind of player every team needs, however for some reason Real Madrid decided not to keep the player, allowing him to leave for a lucrative offer from Qatar in the summer of 2024 and his absence can still be felt in the team to this day. The Spaniard was the only true number nine in the squad and since his departure that has been the area of the squad lacking the most which has played a huge part in the disappointing back-to-back seasons since his departure.
The Spaniard brought veteran experience, was a genuine goal threat, and accepted his role at the club, which when all put together made him the perfect Real Madrid player, but unfortunately the club thought otherwise, something fans still won't let the club live down.
Joselu loved Real Madrid so should he return to La Liga with another side, he will no doubt try his best not to haunt his former team but should he score some goals against Los Blancos it could serve as a wake up call to the club as to why they shouldn't have let him go. Joselu is the definition of don't fall in love with a loan player and for all he did in his one season at the Bernabeu, is someone all Real Madrid fans wish success for no matter where he is playing.
