Football pundit and icon Thierry Henry stated how happy he was to see Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe make a run and score a tap-in during their 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich.

Mbappe was, especially in the second half, a constant menace for Real Madrid against Bayern in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and his poor finishing prevented him from having at least two or three goals.

Real Madrid created a lot of danger, and almost all of it was tested through Vinicius Jr and Mbappe, but neither of them was able to get the club that equalising goal that they could have taken to the Allianz Arena next Wednesday.

The goal that Mbappe did score, though, was a tap-in after a great off-ball run from the Frenchman into the box which was found by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Henry mentioned how refreshing it was to see him do these things, and how important it is for Real Madrid.

He said: “What’s difficult with Kylian is that he knows he can create, he can do whatever… we saw, he could have scored some wonder goals tonight, but you can also add the tap-ins, and I am so happy that’s what he did tonight.”

Henry does not know it - or he probably does - but that has been the issue with Mbappe for a while, as long as Real Madrid fans are concerned.

For a very long time, Real Madrid fans have been wanting Mbappe to make these sorts of runs that everyone knows he can make. It is what made him such a devastating player when he first came onto the scene, and something that has already shown so much importance during his time at PSG and Real Madrid.

However, he just does not use it enough. Mbappe likes to be involved in the build-up play and the creative aspect of it all, which sometimes means he neglects his striker duties and is not present in the box when he is needed.

That makes fans a little annoyed, and rightfully so. There are so many points where Real Madrid do everything right to get the ball in the box, but there is no one to convert the chance when it is time.

Those are the things that Henry may have knowingly or unknowingly alluded to. That is something that Mbappe definitely needs to work on, especially in games where it is possible for him to have these off-ball runs.
