Toni Kroos sent a brutally honest message to Lionel Messi on behalf of Real Madrid fans

Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos retired at the peak of his powers two years ago, but he is still around spitting hot takes and telling the unfiltered truth about world football, which Madridistas very much appreciate having that perspective and one less biased, Premier League slanted voice in the media.

As so many have reacted following Spain's 1-0 win over Argentina in the World Cup Final, there is a widespread sigh of relief that a team that actually tries to win, play the game of football the right way, and not engage in the sort of cheap tactics won. Similar to PSG defeating Arsenal in the Champions League Final, Spain took down an Argentina side that seemed more interested in scamming their way to a victory than actually trying to win; they did not even get a shot on target in regulation.

All Kroos had to say about the World Cup Final and Spain's victory was "Football won", which was a similar sentiment to what Zlatan Ibrahimovic echoed on the FOX broadcast. And most fans around the world feel the same way about what they have seen from Argentina this tournament with all the diving, elbowing players, and generally being a nuisance.

Lionel Messi is the villain of the story now

The message from Toni Kroos is exactly how Real Madrid fans feel about Lionel Messi and Argentina, too. Even though Messi was in the Golden Boot race, the World Cup Final exposed him, too. He was hacking at players, complaining to the ref, and going down at the slightest breeze. It is a familiar sight to Real Madrid fans who remember Messi doing that all throughout the 2000s and 2010s, but now the rest of the world saw Messi try to get Marc Cucurella sent off for no reason after Enzo Fernadnez's horror tackle.

What Messi and Argentina have to realize is that they are the villains in this story. So many people have worshipped Messi and followed Argentina along with him in order to chase glory by association and worship a person who does not even care about them, ignoring the Negreira investigation in which Barcelona paid off officials during Messi's time there or the current $300 million federal investigation by the United States into the Argentina association.

The world has slowly turned against Argentina, and by not even playing the game or trying to get shots on target, Argentina exposed themselves as more scheme than team, with Messi the passive ringer leader looking to vulture the easy scraps to convert into goals. There was nothing out there for him against Spain, and football won as he and Argentina fell.
