Frustration is the perfect way to describe Real Madrid this season and it's been written on the faces of every player throughout the campaign. Constant setbacks including the 4-2 loss to Benfica in the Champions League have frustrated fans.

It's also how Cristian Romero feels at Tottenham Hotspur amid a concerning time for the Premier League club. The Argentine defender isn't afraid to speak his mind and he has now called out the higher-ups for a second time.

Romero has been a mainstay in Spurs' defense this season but has been unable to help Thomas Frank's side deal with a nightmare campaign. They sit 14th in the Premier League table and are nearer to a relegation battle than a top four race.

Cristian Romero vents his frustrations

Romero sent out an intriguing Instagram post when the Premier League transfer window closed on Monday. He wrote a message to fans that it was "unbelievable" but "true" and "disgraceful" that Spurs' squad plagued by constant injuries wasn't addressed with any new additions.

This came weeks after he accused his club's board of only speaking up when the team were performing well. His comments are indicative of his mindset but also suggest he is at odds with the hierachy.

Romero was appointed club captain last summer and has used his voice to air his grievances with the Lilywhites' ownership. It's a risky move given he is calling out his employers but its good news for Madrid.

Romero's frustration helps Madrid

Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Romero and Florentino Perez is a huge admirer of the 27-year-old. He has plenty of experience having been part of Argentina's 2022 World Cup win and he has all the makings of a successful Los Blancos star.

If the La Liga giants intend on pursuing him this summer they might not need to do much persuading to convince the defender to make the move to the Estadio Bernabeu. His comments are also putting his current club in a difficult position regarding his future.

Romero will have three years on his contract come the end of the season and he's been with the North Londoners since the summer of 2022. He is clearly unimpressed with a lack of progress shown especially after winning the Europa League last season.

Madrid need to strengthen in defense and while there are other names on their wishlist it feels like Romero could be the most attainable. He will be eager to be competing for major trophies and league titles at this stage of his career.
