Trent Alexander-Arnold is already proving himself to the Real Madrid fanbase. The Englishman, who arrived as a free transfer from Liverpool, has made his first three La Liga appearances. He started twice and came off the bench in the other.
It must be said that Xabi Alonso is still figuring out his strongest defense. Ideally, Trent would like to be playing every available minute, but the competition for places is much hotter in Madrid than Liverpool.
As time progresses, Trent will look to rubber-stamp his place in the Real Madrid starting lineup. This begins not on the pitch, but off the pitch.
To really embed himself into the culture of Real Madrid, Trent will want to embed himself into the culture of Madrid itself. While Real Madrid is a global brand, they are still a Spanish club and proud of their culture.
Trent Alexander-Arnold makes a promise to Real Madrid fans
So, Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed the next step in his Real Madrid journey. He's excited to begin learning Spanish.
When praised for his quick learning of Spanish, Trent said: “Thank you. I've been working on this since I knew the move was coming. I wanted to show respect for the culture and the fans. I still have a lot to learn, but I'm enjoying the process.”
Learning a whole new language, particularly as a fully-fledged adult, is no easy task. If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.
Not only is it difficult, but it's also a long process. It may take a long while before Trent Alexander-Arnold can consider himself fluent in Spanish, and Real Madrid fans will support him, however long the journey takes.
What's great to see is that Trent is already in the process of learning. This is a remarkable sign of respect for the Spanish culture, and a sign that he sees this as his new home.
If Trent becomes fluent in Spanish, which seems to be his aim, this would be a step-up on Gareth Bale. We won't dig up old graves, but Bale was often criticized by the Spanish media for never comitting to learning Spanish.
Some fans saw the funny side of this, but Trent will want to avoid the same treatment that his British counterpart Bale received from the media.
