Real Madrid players are in the form of their lives right now. For the first time in what feels like a lifetime (realistically, it's only been one season), multiple Real Madrid players are playing at the heights of their game.
We've spoken at length about Arda Güler and how his new free-roaming role is working wonders for him, both for Real Madrid and for the Turkish national team.
Last night, while on international duty, his Real Madrid teammate put in a similarly impressive performance and produced a moment that was magical.
Real Madrid fans will not be surprised that the player in the spotlight is Aurelien Tchouameni.
Aurelien Tchouameni's assist was from the Paul Pogba guidebook
The French midfielder Tchouameni is in the form of his life, even surpassing Fede Valverde in the consistency charts. Last night, in France's win over Ukraine, he put in another blinder.
Tchouameni assisted his Real Madrid teammate Kylian Mbappé. He played a long through ball that travelled the majority of the pitch. Tchouameni made the pass between the halfway line and France's box, and it reached Mbappé to make him through on goal.
Of course, Mbappé's immense speed, which is widely documented, helped Tchouameni. It wouldn't have been possible without it, but it was Tchou that made the pass, and the French media has been waxing lyrical about him ever since.
It was a stellar assist from a deep-lying position that would have given French fans a flashback to when Paul Pogba was doing it for them. With an assist like that, you'd be forgiven for mistaking Tchouameni for Pogba.
Look, after last season, we understand it's not popular to call Real Madrid players the best in the world. The soccer world is reactionary, and recency bias kicks in when such claims are made.
That said, we are struggling to think of many, if any, defensive midfielders who are in better form than Tchouameni right now. He's simply in his own caliber, that's how good he's been.
Somehow, he's become even better under Xabi Alonso. Perhaps there's something to be said about learning from a player who once led the world in a Real Madrid jersey.
We don't want to jinx it, but long may his impressive form continue.
