Luka Modric is leaving Real Madrid, and the fans are stunned by how quickly it happened. Until a few days ago, there was no update on the subject, and it only took a few moments for the club to announce that the Croatian's contract would not be renewed.

In his goodbye message to Real Madrid fans on social media, Modric stated that he will play his final game for the club on Saturday at the Bernabeu.

Many fans have interpreted that statement as implying that the Real Sociedad game was Modric's final game for Los Blancos, which is not the case. That was only the last game at the Santiago Bernabeu.

According to MARCA, Modric's last Real Madrid game is at least a month away. The player has played his final game at the Bernabeu, but he will travel to the Club World Cup as a part of the team and will compete under Xabi Alonso.

Luka Modric has another trophy to add to his Real Madrid cabinet

Starting in mid-June, Real Madrid will be in the United States for the new Club World Cup, which the team hopes to win in its inaugural year.

Luka Modric is already Real Madrid's most decorated player, having won a record 28 trophies, and he has the opportunity to make it 29.

In most cases, Xabi Alonso is expected to lead Real Madrid into the competition, and the manager's confidence in Modric is unwavering.

It was earlier claimed that Alonso had requested Los Blancos to renew Modric's contract, implying that the manager relied on him for another reason. The reason Real Madrid did not renew him is another story.

It is fair to expect that the Croatian great will play his fair amount of minutes in the tournament. Real Madrid are one of the favourites to win the trophy, as is Luka Modric.
