Real Madrid will be in the market for multiple center backs this summer transfer window, as they have struggled to keep offenses at bay for the last couple of seasons, often getting bailed out by the absolute best goalkeeper on this planet, Thibaut Courtois.

it is clear from all the big reporters in Spanish football that Jose Mourinho wants Florentino Perez to get serious about upgrading the defense and that Flo will in turn listen to Jose's suggestions about the market. Alessandro Bastoni from Serie A champions Inter Milan is the golden boy in mind for Mourinho, but Real Madrid have other options, too, such as free agent Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool.

Another option is the Croatian international Josko Gvardiol, whom Real Madrid could have signed a couple of years ago but decided not to spend, instead allowing Man City to pluck the versatile defender from Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig.

Josko Gvardiol addresses his future

There are rumblings of Gvardiol's availability now that Pep Guardiola has stepped down as their manager, but the young defender himself does not sound very interested in leaving the Etihad this summer at all.

Josko Gvardiol recently had this to say about the transfer rumors linking him with a move away from Manchester City, via The Croatian, "We've all seen the various rumors coming from every direction. I'm happy at the club, I have everything I need. Before the injury I played every match, almost full minutes. After the World Cup we'll see what happens next."

He also said, "We've all seen various rumours coming from every direction. I'm happy at Man City, I have everything I need. Before the injury I played every match, almost full minutes. After the World Cup we'll see”

Gvardiol has slightly left the door ajar for a possible transfer out of Man City if the right offer were to materialize, and it is hard to say no to Real Madrid. Two of his Croatian teammates played for Real Madrid during the three peat heyday, midfielders Mateo Kovacic and Luka Modric, and maybe they are still talking about him making a move, though that is less likely in the case of Kovacic as a current Man City player.

Real Madrid could really use Gvardiol, but it sounds like he is, right now, not interested in leaving Man City, which means there is less leverage to get him and less incentive for Man City to be open to a move. Gvardiol is worth Real Madrid continuing to keep in mind, but he is happy in Manchester for now.
