Real Madrid are working hard to sign a new group of midfielders for Jose Mourinho, having already brought in three defensive stalwarts for the legendary manager with a fourth player, a center back, very likely on the way soon.
But a lot of Madridistas would like to see the club bring in an experienced goal scorer. It appears Mourinho has changed the club's stance on Gonzalo Garcia and will have the young Castilla product back for the 2026/27 season, as opposed to being sold with a buy back clause, after he showed great efficiency in front of goal and other promising traits in his debut season.
Even so, a more experienced and productive player could help at striker, and while La Liga veterans like Vedat Muriqi and Ante Budimir with gaudy scoring totals are often heralded as options, perhaps because they are well known commodities in Spanish football and very cheap to sign, the clear standout option is actually outside the country entirely.
One of the only strikers worth Real Madrid's time
Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav was in the fourth division of German football and a cult hero only touted as the next big thing by the most diehard German fans, and when he started putting up crazy numbers in the Belgian top flight, those fans knew he would be destined for big things. Now, Undav is a Premier League success with Brighton, a star player for Stuttgart, and the best forward on the German national team, which was sealed with two clinical World Cup goals in the second half off the bench to lead Germany's 2-1 comeback victory over Yan Diomande's incredibly underrated Ivory Coast side.
Undav is far from just a World Cup flash in the pain, and he needs to be the main starting striker for Germany from here on out; he looks like the country's solution since the decline of Thomas Muller and the retirement of Miroslav Klose.
Last season, Deniz Undav put up crazy all around numbers for Stuttgart, even though most of the world totally ignored what he did. The 29 year old had 19 goals and 6 assists in the Bundesliga with 1.3 key passes per game. He also had three goals in the DFB Pokal, as well as three goals and six assists in the Europa League.
Undav is not a world class player, but as a Real Madrid backup striker for 20-25 million euros on the transfer market, the emerging World Cup hero could be a great signing in case Jose Mourinho and the club want someone both with experience and with more creativity and athleticism than Gonzalo Garcia. He is the best option if Real want an affordable, veteran 9 who fits how the club likes to play and can finish his chances.
