In the recent days following the announcement that Xabi Alonso will be the new manager at Chelsea, the footballing is full of excitement and anticipation to see what the Spaniard will bring to the Premier League next season. Alonso will be coming into a less than ideal situation with a struggling Chelsea side, but after what we saw him do when he first joined a struggling Leverkusen side, odds are he can to the same with Chelsea.
Naturally with Chelsea struggling and a new manager coming in new signings are no doubt going to arrive in the summer to help shape the squad to fit Alonso's vision, with the current Chelsea squad possibly lacking one or two piece. Who exactly will arrive remains unknown at the moment, but Xabi Alonso could possibly look to bring in one o his cornerstone piece from Real Madrid, Arda Guler.
Xabi Alonso could steal Arda Guler to get back at his former club
It had been reported back in February that should Xabi Alonso be hired as the new manager at Liverpool one of the first signings he would ask for would be Guler. Given he's not at Liverpool but rather Chelsea, the principle could still carry over and he could look to bring the Turkish international to Stamford Bridge, which would be a major blow to Real Madrid.
When Xabi Alonso was first appointed at Real Madrid one of his main goals was to get the best out of Arda Guler, which we struggled to see in his first couple seasons at the Bernabeu, and Alonso succeeded. The Turkish international was one of the first names on the team sheet and managed to grab three goals and eight assists during the Spaniard's time in charge. Guler has kept up the form he found under Alonso and grabbed three goals and six assists following his sacking before an injury untimely brought his season to and end. His absence has been felt, with Real struggling for creativity, showing exactly why Alonso viewed the 21-year-old so highly.
Guler is exactly the kind of play maker Alonso had in his Leverkusen sides with Florian Wirtz and with Cole Palmer currently occupying that playmaking role at Chelsea and struggling this season. It wouldn't come as a surprise if Alonso asked to bring Guler to Chelsea and shift Palmer out to the right-wing.
Chelsea are known to splash the cash and with Guler valued at around €90 million, the Premier League side paying a transfer fee isn't tottaly unfeasable, but a swap deal could potentially make sense for both sides. Back in February Guler was reportedly one of the players Chelsea would want to be included in a swap deal with Enzo Fernandez going the other way to the Bernabeu, and with Enzo being one the Real's top midfield targets, a deal for Alonso to bring Guler to Chelsea may not be as outlandish as it sounds.
